Don’t be afraid to drop your newfound knowledge while you are at that picnic eating a Hot Dog!!
1. We did not actually declare independence on the 4th of July. The official vote declaring our independence from Britain was not on July 4, 1776, it was two days prior. The “Declaration” was published in papers on July 4, 1776.
2. Americans will enjoy 150 million hot dogs during the July 4th celebration, according to the Nation Sausage and Hot Dog Council. Americans are expected to eat 150 million hot dogs over the July 4th Holiday. This is a small part of the estimated 7 billion “dogs” that are expected to be devoured between Memorial Day through Labor Day.
3. Charles Thompson and John Hancock were the only two men who signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The other 54 delegates signed over the course of the next month.
4. There is something written on the back of the Declaration of Independence. According to the History Channel, a simple message is written on the document, that reads, “Original Declaration of Independence dated 4th July 1776.”
5. The Declaration of Independence was written on a laptop…....sort of, not a modern laptop, but still a laptop. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on a writing desk that could fit over one’s lap. The device was referred to at the time as a “Laptop.”
6. Three Presidents have died on July 4th. Thomas Jefferson, 82, and John Adams, 90, both died 5 hours apart on July 4, 1826, on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration. The third was James Monroe, who died five years later.
