Picking up Property
All Property is released by appointment ONLY. To schedule an appointment, please fill out the RELEASE OF PROPERTY FORM or call 215-368-1801 during normal business hours. You must provide your name, a case number or a serial number and/or a description of the property you would like to pick up. *You must bring a valid state-issued photo ID or Driver License to your appointment.
If you were taken into custody by LPD, and Officers booked your property for safekeeping because the jail would not accept it, that property will be held for a standard retention period. If the property is not picked up it will be disposed of according to Pennsylvania Law/ Department Policies
Evidence Releases
The Evidence Custodian does not release property held as evidence without authorization from the Officer, Detective, District Attorney or Judge handling the case. This may be the investigator, the District Attorney’s Office, another law enforcement agency or the court. To inquire about the status of the case, please contact the investigating Officer or Detective handling your case. Please provide your name and case number.
Found Property
Any item entered into Evidence as found property is held for at least 90 days to attempt to identify an owner. If the item has not been claimed after 90 days, it will be disposed of according to Pennsylvania Law/ Department Policies.
Lost Items
If you would like to know if a lost item has been turned in, call 215-368-1801. You must provide your name, date of birth, phone number, description of the item(s), and the location where the item(s) may have been lost.
Firearms
Firearms cannot be released until a background check through Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) has been completed. PICS requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania ID or driver's license. The Evidence Custodian will coordinate an appointment to pick up your firearm(s) in coordination with the PICS approval.
In some cases, a court order for release of property may be required.
If you are denied possession of a firearm by PICS, you may appeal the denial with PICS.
Firearms are ONLY returned to the registered owner. Proof of purchase may be required.
Inmate property
If you were booked into the Montgomery County Correctional Facility with your property, your property will be released by the corrections officer at the time you are released, please contact, the Montgomery County Correctional Facility for further information at 610-635-7100.
