LANSDALE BOROUGH – On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at approximately 2:51 AM, officers from the Lansdale Police Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle and a freight train at the railroad crossing on South Broad Street.
Upon arrival, officers located a white 2023 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that had collided with a freight train, striking a tank car as the train was actively crossing the roadway. At the time of the crash, the railroad crossing gates were fully operational, with both visual signals and audible alarms activated.
The force of the impact caused the tank car to partially derail. The pickup truck caught fire following the collision, but the flames had been extinguished prior to officers' arrival. Two juvenile males were found inside the vehicle and confirmed to be entrapped.
Emergency personnel from Fairmount Fire Company, North Penn Volunteer Fire Company, Towamencin Fire Company, Colmar Fire Company, and the Volunteer Medical Service Corps (VMSC) responded to assist. Both occupants were successfully extricated from the vehicle and transported by VMSC to Grand View Hospital in critical condition.
Lansdale Detectives were joined by the North Penn Crash Team and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau to investigate the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
Fire Police secured South Broad Street from Vine Street to Main Street for several hours during the response, investigation, and cleanup efforts by Lansdale Borough Public Works.
