LANSDALE BOROUGH- On March 2, 2022, the Lansdale Borough Police Department became an Accredited Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Agency.  During the quarterly Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Conference, Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) unanimously approved the Lansdale Borough Police Department for Accredited Status.  Less than 10% of the 1,200 law enforcement agencies have earned this status in Pennsylvania.

The goal of becoming an accredited police department has been discussed for years, by numerous administrations.  In 2020, Chief Michael Trail assigned Lieutenant Ryan Devlin the daunting task of getting the Lansdale Borough Police Department Accreditation.  On January 1, 2021, Lt. Devlin began his quest, which included establishing or amending department policies covering training, operations, evidence, and custody to meet 138 rigorous standards of best practices in law enforcement.   Lt. Devlin, with the help of administrative staff, detectives, patrol, and many others, was able to have the department ready for an on-site assessment in less than 10 months!    

On October 21, 2021, three independent assessors from the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association conducted an extensive review and evaluation of LPD’s policies, procedures, and practices.  The three assessors then reported their findings to an authoritative body who would then gather and decide if the Lansdale Borough Police Department was worthy of accreditation.      

With the achievement of Accreditation, the Lansdale Police Department must submit to an assessment every three years to verify that we continually meet the rigorous standards of PLEAC Accreditation to keep our status. 

The Lansdale Borough Police Department is always striving to give the highest quality of service to the community.  Accreditation will improve our level of service to the community while reducing risk to the public, our police officers, and the Borough of Lansdale.
