Press Release: Operation Nighthawk 2022
The Pennsylvania State Police organize a wide variety of enforcement initiatives throughout the year which help keep the roads of the Commonwealth safe. Operation Nighthawk is one of those initiatives and it focuses on getting impaired drivers off the roadway. As the summer concludes, and we quickly approach the fall, drivers are reminded that DUI is a serious crime.
In 2022, Operation Nighthawk embarks upon its 21st year, and we do so in honor of Troopers Martin Mack and Branden Sisca. Both Troopers were killed in the line of duty, earlier this year, by a suspected drunk driver.
This DUI enforcement detail combines municipal and regional law enforcement agencies, along with the Pennsylvania State Police, throughout the Commonwealth. And their focus is on impaired driving. The entire operation includes classroom instruction, motivational speakers, and current legislative updates; all of which is followed by roving DUI patrols in the respective jurisdictions of each participating law enforcement agency.
The Eastern Montgomery County Impaired Driving Task Force is participating in Operation Nighthawk this year. The Operation is scheduled to take place during the weekend of August 13, 2022. The Eastern Montgomery County Impaired Driving Task Force is comprised of the following municipalities:
• Abington Township
• Cheltenham Township
• Jenkintown Borough
• Lower Moreland Township
• Springfield Township
• Upper Dublin Township
• Upper Moreland Township
• Whitemarsh Township
