June is Internet Safety Month!

The Lower Moreland Police wants to remind everyone, especially our youth, about internet safety and staying vigilant online. With kids as young as 3 navigating technology, it's essential to have open conversations about online safety. 

For Parents:

Take this opportunity to talk to your children about the risks associated with online activities.

1. Raise awareness, be involved, and reassure them that you're there to help should issues arise.
2. Stay calm when issues arise, and discourage the creation and sharing of inappropriate content.
3. Encourage your kids to take action against wrongdoing and support them when they need it most.

For Children and Teenagers:

Remember, everything you do online reflects on your character and can expose you to potential risks. Be careful what you post, as it can affect how others perceive you. Leave a positive online footprint, and if you can do so safely, help others who need assistance.

Keep in mind that not all online information is trustworthy, and it's essential to verify the credibility of sources. If you encounter something online that makes you feel sad, scared, or confused, close the window or turn off the monitor, and tell a trusted adult about what happened.

Be aware that certain online behaviors can increase the risk of online enticement, including:

• Lying about your age to access certain platforms
• Initiating online communication with offenders or offering exchanges
• Sending explicit photos or videos of yourself to others

Stay safe online, and remember to always check in with a trusted adult if you're unsure about something!
