January 2023: Traffic Safety Tip of the Month

January TRAFFIC SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH

Pennsylvania Vehicle Code-  3310(a): Following too closely

Did you know approximately 30% of all crashes are rear end type crashes?

The rear end type crash is simple to avoid and is always the fault of the striking vehicle.

You can avoid this type of crash in the following ways:

Stay a safe distance behind the car in front of you:  The general rule is now a 3-second gap, however, that increases as your speed increases.

~During inclement weather, allow more time to safely stop for the conditions in which you’re driving.

~The most important thing is that you DO NOT TAILGATE

Even when stopped in traffic you should be able to view the roadway between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Following too close will not help you get to your destination sooner, but it will increase the probability you'll be involved in a rear end crash.

PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY!
