DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE ANNOUNCES INVESTIGATION INTO OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN HATFIELD TOWNSHIP

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announces an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Hatfield Township this morning.

At 7:31 a.m., the 911 operator dispatched Hatfield Township Police for a call from a resident reporting that a male had run through her backyard and was hiding in her neighbor’s yard. Hatfield Police responded and located the male between two woodpiles. The initial investigation indicates the police issued commands for the male to come out and show his hands, and the male did not comply. He was tazed, then ran at police who fired at and stuck the male. A knife was recovered by police. Police immediately rendered aid to the 29-year-old man, who was then transported to Grandview Hospital and is undergoing surgery.

Per protocol for officer-involved shootings in the county, Montgomery County Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. The names of the man involved and the police involved are not being released at this time.
