The Upper Moreland Police Department is proud to introduce three new members to our ranks. Tom Lynch, James Kelly and Michael Reynolds (left to right) began their journey as cadets in the Montgomery County Municipal Police Academy on January 2, 2025. Over the next six months, they will work to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to protect and serve the Upper Moreland community. Following their graduation in June, they will go through an additional five months of field training with the officers here at UMPD.
Tom Lynch will be a third-generation police officer. He earned his bachelor and juris doctorate degrees from Temple University. Tom is married to his beautiful wife Kim and has three daughters: Emily, Julia and Natalie. His hobbies include playing boardgames, running and playing disc golf.
James Kelly recently completed the Bachelors program at Del Val University where he also played on the baseball team. He is currently working on his Masters Degree. James graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy in 2023 and served as a Class 2 Officer for Sea Isle City Police Department.
Mike Reynolds graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 2015 and went on to obtain a Criminal Justice Degree from Temple University. Upon graduating Temple, Mike went on to enlist with the United States Coast Guard. During his time on active duty, he spent two years conducting search and rescue operations in Destin, FL, and went on to become an intelligence analyst at USCG Sector Delaware Bay in South Philadelphia, where he still proudly serves as a member of their Reserve component. Mike was largely inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement by his father, who has been a Montgomery County Detective since 2004 after honorably serving in the Philadelphia Police Department and Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Detective division.
Please join us in welcoming Tom, James and Michael to UMPD and wishing them safe and successful law enforcement careers!
