The Upper Moreland Police Department has received a growing number of reports of postal fraud. Checks that are mailed via free standing mailboxes are being targeted. Thieves fish these checks out of the mailbox and "wash" the checks - using chemicals to change the payee names and often the dollar amounts on checks before fraudulently depositing them. This includes not only checks used to pay utilities or other bills but also personal checks sent in things such as birthday cards.
Protect yourself from mail fraud. Please do not place these envelopes in outside, free standing mailboxes. ALWAYS walk them inside the Post Office and put them in the secure mail slots or hand them to your postal carrier.
If you believe you've been a victim of postal fraud and reside in Upper Moreland Township, please make a police report by calling 9-1-1 or visiting our station lobby. You should also report the crime to the Unites States Postal Service at Report Mail Fraud & Postal Fraud | USPIS or 1-877-876-2455.
