Make sure your house number can be easily seen from the road in order to direct first responders to your residence in the event of an emergency. Often times, especially at night, it is difficult to locate a specific residence due to a lack of house numbers, worn or faded materials, or markings that are placed in an area not commonly used to identify a residence. Here are some tips to ensure that we can find your residence quickly when our response time matters most:
- Post your address clearly and prominently on your home. Do not assume that since your mailbox is marked, you have adequately posted your address - mailboxes are not always at the entrance to your driveway and are often not clearly marked on both sides.
- The Upper Moreland Township Ordinance (Section 95-4) requires that house numbers be posted with a durable light-reflecting material or to be of a color which contrasts with the immediate background. The numbers should be at least three inches high for residential uses and 5 1/2 inches high for nonresidential uses.
- Ensure that the numbers are visible from both directions of travel and that they are not obstructed by bushes, trees, or other debris.
- Avoid using cursive style fonts - big, bold numbers are best!
