Overnight Slab Jacking Work Scheduled For Plymouth Road Grade Crossing in Lower Gwynedd Twp. A third-party contractor for SEPTA with support from SEPTA Track Department forces will be performing a process known as slab jacking for two nights at the Plymouth Road grade crossing, located at Gwynedd Valley Station between Evans Road and Grasshopper Lane in Lower Gwynedd Township.
This nighttime/overnight work will be performed between 10 pm and 6 am on Monday, July 28th, and Tuesday, July 29th.
What to Expect: Nearby residents, business patrons as well as those traveling through this area should expect detours at the crossing, loud noises from drilling and tamping and bright lights from the work area. Slab jacking is a process to fix profile imperfections in the road crossings. The work is performed in the track area of the crossing itself. The contractor comes in and drills holes throughout the crossing, then pumps foam underneath the crossing to jack it up and fix the profile. After the contractor corrects the profile in the crossing, SEPTA forces tamp the approaches of the crossing to meet the new profile.
Regional Rail Impacts: Any disruptions to service will be minor. There may be a time when trains will single track through the area.
