Picking up Property
ALL property is released by APPOINTMENT ONLY. To schedule an appointment, please fill out the RELEASE OF PROPERTY FORM or call 610-933-7899 during the above-listed operation hours. You must provide your name, a case number or a serial number and/or a description of the property you would like to pick up.
You must bring a valid government-issued photo ID or Driver License to your appointment.
For most items, an appointment date or date range without a specified time will be arranged; e.g., you may be told to come in on Monday or Tuesday at any time during our hours of operation. Certain items may require an appointment with a specific date and time. Appointments may be available outside of listed operation hours at the discretion of the evidence technicians.
Prisoner Property
If UPPD arrested you, and an Officer booked your property for safekeeping because the jail would not accept it, that property will be held for 90 days and disposed of if not picked up.
Evidence Releases
The Evidence Custodians do not release property held as evidence without written authorization from the Officer, Detective, District Attorney or Judge handling the case. This may be the investigator, the District Attorney's Office, another law enforcement agency or the court. To inquire about the case status, please contact the investigating Officer or Detective handling your case. Please provide your name and case number.
Picking Up Property for Another Person/Non-Owner Claims
If you are picking up the property for someone else, you will need a Power of Attorney (POA) or a Notarized Statement from the person who owns the property authorizing you to claim the item(s) on their behalf. The document must indicate the name of the person picking up the property as well as an inventory of items they are authorized to claim. The person picking up your property must make an appointment with the Evidence Custodian and bring a valid government-issued photo ID along with the POA, Notarized Statement or other legal documents authorizing such.
Found Property
Any item turned into UPPD as found property is held for at least 90 days to attempt to identify an owner. If the item has not been claimed after 90 days, it will be disposed of according to Pennsylvania Law / Department Policies.
Lost Items
If you want to determine if a lost item has been turned in, call 610-933-7899. You must provide your name, date of birth, phone number, description of the item(s), and the location where the item(s) may have been lost.
Firearms
Firearms cannot be released until a background check through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) has been completed. PICS requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania ID or driver's license. The Evidence Custodian will coordinate an appointment to pick up your firearm(s) in coordination with the PICS approval.
If PICS denies you possession of a firearm, you may appeal the denial with PICS.
Firearms are ONLY returned to the registered owner. Proof of purchase may be required.
Inmate property
If you were booked into the Montgomery County Correction Facility with your property, your property will be released by the corrections officer at the time you are released. Please contact the Montgomery County Correctional Facility for further information at 610-635-7100.
Vehicle Impounds
All vehicles held at UPPD are released by appointment ONLY. To schedule an appointment, complete the Release of Property Form OR call 610-933-7899 during regular operation hours. You must provide your name, a case number, and a description of the vehicle you would like to pick up.
Important: All towing and/or storage fees must be paid before picking up the vehicle. Be prepared to show your receipt. Vehicles are only released to registered vehicle owners.
In cases of Search Warrants, the investigating officer will contact you to tell you when the vehicle will be released. You may contact an Evidence Custodian to arrange a pickup time.
Vehicles not picked up (or where pickup arrangements were not made) within 48 hours will be towed back to the originating tow company's facility. Additional storage and/or towing fees may apply.
You must bring a valid government-issued photo ID or Driver License and all other required documentation.
