Dear Residents,
We want to inform you of a growing issue regarding car thefts in our area. Thieves are using advanced technology to capture key fob signals, especially targeting Honda vehicles, but other makes and models are also at risk. Here are some important tips to help protect your vehicle from both key fob signal theft and regular car thieves:
1. Protect Your Key Fob Signal:
- Use a Faraday Bag/Box: When you're not using your key fob, store it inside a Faraday bag or box. This blocks the signal and prevents thieves from copying it.
- Keep Fobs Away from Doors/Windows: If you don't have a Faraday bag, keep your key fob as far from your car as possible, away from doors and windows.
- Turn Off "Keyless" Features (If Possible): Some cars allow you to disable the keyless entry function. Check with your car's manual or dealership for options.
2. Regular Car Theft Prevention:
- Lock Your Car & Double-Check: Always lock your vehicle, even when parked in your driveway or garage. Double-check to make sure it's properly secured.
- Park in Well-Lit Areas: Always park in well-lit and populated areas. If possible, park in a garage or secure parking lot.
- Install a Car Alarm or Tracking System: Consider investing in a car alarm or GPS tracking system that can alert you or authorities if your car is tampered with.
- Remove Valuables: Do not leave valuables visible in your vehicle. Even small items can be a target for thieves.
- Steering Wheel Locks & Other Anti-Theft Devices: Invest in physical deterrents like steering wheel locks that make it harder for thieves to steal your vehicle.
3. Stay Vigilant:
- Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to local authorities. The more eyes on the street, the safer our community will be.
We encourage all residents to take these steps to protect their vehicles and prevent theft. Thank you for working together to keep our neighborhood safe!
Best Regards,
