UPDATED 4/5/18 at 0900 Hrs:
At approximately 3:00 PM on April 4, 2018, Lower Pottsgrove Township Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in front of 1970 N Charlotte Street. No injuries were reported. Upon arriving police found a United States Postal delivery truck on the front lawn of 1970 N. Charlotte street on top of a large boulder. The vehicles struck a utility pole, snapping it and taking down wires after being struck by a POD's transport truck, a 2002 Hino, which was resting next to the Postal Service vehicle, a 1992 Grumman. The pole and the wires had fallen on both vehicles and were wrapped around the POD truck. Fire personnel from Ringing Hill and Sanatoga Fire Companies and Fire police assisted on scene. The operator of the POD truck was FRANK HANLEY, age 39 of Boyertown, PA. The United States Postal Service vehicle was operated by Timothy Holeran, age 59 of Gilbertsville. The Postal truck was stopper along the roadway as the driver was delivering mail to the residence.
Investigation found the USPS truck was stopped facing northbound on the side of N. Charlotte Street delivering mail to 1970 N. Charlotte Street. HANLEY attempted to go around the Postal Service vehicle in the opposing lane of travel. As he attempted to go around the stopped vehicle, HANLEY encountered another vehicle traveling in the opposing direction not allowing him clearance to go around. To avoid striking the oncoming vehicle head on HANLEY veered back over into the northbound lane where he struck the postal service truck. Force of impact caused both vehicles to strike the utility pole that was on the front lawn of 1970 N. Charlotte Street. The pole brought the utility lines down over the vehicle and across the roadway resulting in a road closure. The road reopened to traffic around 11:00 PM.
