Lower Pottsgrove Police responded to a report of a truck that lost its load on Rt. 422 westbound west of the Sanatoga Interchange at approx. 1244 hours on Tuesday March 12, 2019.. Several callers reported a tri-axle dump truck losing its load of dirt or mud onto the roadway. The truck reportedly stopped just west of the S. Pleasantview Road overpass to secure the gate on the rear of the truck but the truck departed before police could locate it.
Officers arrived to find a thick coating of what appeared to be muddy soil covering the westbound lane for approx. 700 ft. beginning on top of the bridge over S. Sanatoga Road. PennDOT dispatched a loader, street sweeper and crews to try and clear the roadway but only a portion of the thick slippery debris could be removed. Police were forced to close down Rt. 422 westbound at Sanatoga until fire crews from Sanatoga, Ringing Hill and Limerick Fire departments responded and washed the mud from the road surface. Eastbound Rt. 422 also had a lane restriction in the area of the spill and this resulted in jammed traffic eastbound as well as a reportable crash between a small sedan and a tractor trailer. This crash was cleared in about 35 minutes.
The westbound lanes of Rt. 422 were finally re-opened at approx. 1515 hours but the closure left jammed traffic on all routes through Sanatoga. Anyone who may have seen this dump truck that lost its load is requested to contact Lower Pottsgrove Township Police at 610-326-1508.
