Police Apprehend Suspect after Stolen Car Crashes on E High Street
At approximately 3:27 AM this morning, Lower Pottsgrove Police responded to a report of vehicle accident, involving one vehicle into a utility pole in front of 1929 E High Street. Police arrived on scene to find an unoccupied 2007 Ford F-150 pick-up truck on its side, with a utility pole sheered off infront of the residence. The truck came to rest up against the porch of 1929 E High Street. Officers arriving on scene were alerted that the driver, and sole occupant, had exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Lower Pottsgrove Police were also alerted that Pottstown PD had just had a similar vehicle stolen in the borough about 15 minutes prior to the crash. Officer David McKechnie located the driver running from the scene on foot in the 2000 block of E High Street. The officer took the suspect into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as the driver of the vehicle. The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash but the vehicle was heavily damaged. Pottstown Police assisted on scene and are handling the criminal charges in this case since the theft occurred in the borough. Lower Pottsgrove Police handled the accident investigation. It was determined the vehicle was driving East on High Street at a high rate of speed before crossing onto the westbound side of the road, leaving the roadway and striking the pole before rolling onto its side. The vehicle was towed to Sanatoga Auto Body. The roadway remained closed until PECO crews were able to replace the pole and wires. The road re-opened to traffic around 10:30 AM. Information on the driver is being withheld since the criminal case is being handled by Pottstown Police Department.
