Lower Pottsgrove Township Police announce the arrest of NICHOLAS A. THOMAS, Age 38 of Pottstown, PA for the strong arm robbery of a 77 year old victim that occurred at approximately 09:50 AM on May 7, 2018 in the parking lot of Landis Supermarket, 2190 E High Street
The victim had loading groceries into her car when a NICHOLAS A. THOMAS approached her. He offered to help load groceries into her car. THOMAS then grabbed the victims purse causing minor injuries to her hand and the got into his vehicle and fled the lot. Victim and witnesses provided a solid description of the car including a registration plate number. At approximately 11:09 AM police conducting the investigation located the suspect vehicle in the 200 block of Maple Glenn Circle in the township. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle THOAMS fled at a high rate of speed and short pursuit was initiated by several Lower Pottsgrove officers. THOMAS fled west on High Street and then tried to elude police by entering the CVS parking lot. After nearly striking a patrol unit head on, THOMAS fled back onto High Street. Out of concern for public safety, police discontinued the pursuit. A short while later officers again encountered THOMAS' vehicle and took him into custody. It was found that the suspect had a 3 year old child in the vehicle at the time of the pursuit, resulting in additional charges for Endangering the Welfare of a child. THOMAS has been arraigned and incarcerated on $250,00.00 cash bail. Police recovered most of the victims stolen belongings that THOMAS discarded.
