On August 31, 2020 at approximately 4:00 AM, Hatfield Township Police Officers responded to a report of a vehicle crash in the 1000 block of Chapman Circle in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Responding Officers found a Chevrolet Avalanche had crashed into the rear of a town home causing extensive damage. The striking vehicle was found to be unoccupied and witnesses reported seeing three male occupants running away after the crash. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the three males, who were last seen running westbound on Walnut Street towards Lansdale Borough. The striking vehicle was reportedly stolen from Lansdale Borough prior to the vehicle crash.
We are asking that homeowners and businesses with video surveillance cameras in the area of Chapman Circle, Cowpath Road (between Lenhart Road and Fortuna RR Crossing), and Walnut Street (between Cowpath Road and 7th Street) to please check their footage from yesterday morning around 4:00 AM to determine if they captured anyone fleeing from the vehicle crash scene. CRIMINAL CHARGES, AND ANY DISCUSSION THEREOF, ARE MERELY ALLEGATIONS AND ALL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL AND UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY.
UPDATE: This investigation identified juvenile suspects involved in the theft and subsequent crash of the involved vehicle. These juvenile suspects will have criminal charges filed through juvenile petitions to the court and the case will be forwarded to the Montgomery County Juvenile Authorities.
